Dear Womans Club of Fort Worth, thank you for your generous scholarship. I was so excited and appreciative to hear that I would be the recipient for this scholarship. I am a Junior I nursing major, and I plan on graduating in the spring of 2021. I am from northern California, but I was drawn to Texas and TCU because of their excellent nursing program, which was recently ranked as the #1 program in Texas. Currently, I plan on becoming an ICU nurse with the intent to attend a nurse anesthesia graduate program.

When I think about when I officially decided I wanted to be a nurse, it takes me back to when I was much younger. From an early age, I knew I wanted to help people in any capacity possible. My parents both immigrated from the Philippines after graduating from their own nursing programs to pursue careers in the United States. Their ambition and perseverance encouraged me to chase my own dreams and to find out what my lifes purpose would be. I was exposed to the field of healthcare from a young age. I volunteered at hospitals and other institutions of care to narrow down what I really wanted to do. I chose to pursue nursing because it embodies my values it allows me to directly express care and compassion to the people who need it most. I learned that nursing was not just a career, but a distinct way of improving and positively impacting peoples lives. We take the time to get to know each of our patients, so that we can best utilize our knowledge, skills, and life experience to heal and educate. During my clinicals, I have seen how we help people in their worst moments and happiest moments of life. At the end of the day, we care for people unconditionally which is why I am so honored to have the opportunity to be a part of this profession. My time in this program has only further emphasized this idea that we as nurses care to change our patients, our community, and the world.

I am so grateful to all of you, the Womans Club of Fort Worth, for granting me this scholarship to help me pursue a career that I am deeply passionate about. Your generosity inspires me to work hard to become an exceptional nurse that will provide the best care to my patients.
