Introduction

Climate change has made renewable energy a global priority to replace fossil fuel that continues to impact the environment negatively. Egypt is one of the leading producers of oil in Africa. The country has been generating significant income from exporting oil, which has contributed immensely to the growth of Egypts economy. However, Egypt has been implementing different sustainable energy technologies to reduce fossil fuel reliance. The country has majorly invested in hydroelectricity, wind power and solar energy technologies. This paper analyzes various scholarly materials that provide more information on Egypts technology on renewable energy.

Keywords: renewable energy, solar energy, hydroelectric power, wind power, clean energy technology, sustainable energy, and Egypt.

A Review of Renewable Energy Development in Africa: A Focus in South Africa, Egypt and Nigeria

This article investigates the steps taken by African countries, including Egypt, South Africa and Nigeria, in achieving renewable energy. The primary energy sources reviewed in this article include solar power, hydroelectric power, biomass and biomass (Aliyu et al., 2018). Africa is a rich continent containing various natural resources such as rivers and conducive weather that is favorable for adopting different renewable sources of energy. As a result, effective implementation of sustainable energy technology can enable the continent to utilize its natural resources to harness and store enough renewable energy to address the energy crisis facing many countries in Africa. Investigating the Environmental Kuznets Curve Hypothesis in Egypt: The Role of Renewable Energy and Trade in Mitigating GHGs

The paper report discusses the relationship between environmental quality and economic growth in Egypt. According to the report, as the economy grows, the quality of the environment deteriorates (El-Aasar & Hanafy, 2018). Fossil fuels form at least 96% of the Egyptian economys energy, thus causing about 70% of the emission (El-Aasar & Hanafy, 2018). As a result, the country has been working on adopting sustainable energy technology to produce clean energy that will power economic growth without degrading the environment. Egypt has invested heavily in renewable energy sources, setting a target of producing at least 35% of the electricity from renewable energy sources, including wind power, solar energy and hydropower, by 2030 (El-Aasar & Hanafy, 2018). As a result, the country will significantly reduce carbon emissions shortly. This scholarly article was obtained from google scholar.

Application of Renewable Energy Technologies for Eco-Friendly Sea Ports

This journal discusses the effectiveness of applying renewable sources of energy technology in Egyptian seaports in reducing ship emissions. The paper focuses on Damietta Port and how combining fuel cells and wind energy can turn the port into a green energy powerhouse, thus reducing the emissions produced by shipping activities powered by fossil fuel (Seddiek, 2020). Most of the ports in Egypt rely on diesel engines which have contributed to significant carbon emissions that have negatively impacted the health of the nearby community. The fuel cell technology converts the fuel energy into environmentally friendly electricity. Therefore, combining fuel cell technology and wind energy produces significant clean energy that can power most of the vital activities at the Egyptian ports, thus reducing reliance on fossil energy. Wind Energy in Egypt

This PowerPoint presentation discusses wind energy in Egypt as an efficient renewable source of energy that powers vital industrial activities. According to the presentation, only 1% of Egyptian energy is from wind power (Elsobki, 2019). However, various legislative policies aim to improve the wind energy sector. Some of the mechanisms developed to increase wind energy include increasing cooperation with the private sector, funding the current wind energy projects, and subsidizing companies venturing into the wind energy sector. These policies aim to increase wind energy projects and create a conducive environment for the thriving of wind energy. This PowerPoint presentation was obtained from the World Trade Organization database.

Electricity and Renewable Energy

This article discusses the efforts by the Egyptian government to increase the production of clean energy and reduce the countrys reliance on fossil fuels. According to the article, Egypt has been increasing the production of electricity from renewable energy sources, including solar, hydroelectric power, and wind (Egypt -Electricity and Renewable Energy, 2021). Several green energy projects have been initiated to produce at least 55% of the countrys energy from renewable sources by 2035. Furthermore, the government has created various energy interconnectors with several countries, including Jordan, Sudan and Libya, to increase the countrys electricity levels. This article was obtained from the International Trade Administration database.

The Nexus between Egyptian Renewable Energy Resources and Economic Growth for Achieving Sustainable Development Goals

This article discusses the various challenges and opportunities that Egypt experiences in increasing renewable energy production to meet the growing demand for energy to power the countrys economic growth. According to the article, the Egyptian government has adopted various clean energy technologies to diversify the energy sector by producing both green energy and fossil fuel energy (Clean energy development in Egypt. Sustainable Development Goals Fund, 2018). The government has been majorly focusing on developing wind and solar power. The government has been relying on research and development to adopt the effective technology that increases electricity production. For instance, the wind energy technology being implemented aims to reduce the size of the turbines to increase their speed to generate more energy. The solar energy technology being implemented is the photovoltaic (PV) technology which generates electricity directly from the sunrays. As a result, Egypt has increased the production of green energy to supplement fossil energy in powering the economy.

Renewable Energy Outlook: Egypt

This journal discusses the steps taken by Egypt to achieve green energy. According to the article, Egypt has several policies that aim to achieve its targets on renewable energy. They include updating the energy sector to implement policies aimed at increasing renewable energy production, focusing on biomass as a future source of renewable energy, and implementing friendly policies for the development of solar and wind energy power plants (Renewable Energy Outlook: Egypt, 2018). Additionally, the government aims to conduct effective awareness to encourage the public on the need to embrace using renewable energy. This article was obtained from the International Renewable Energy Agency database.

Conclusion

Egypt is racing toward increasing the production of green energy to reduce its reliance on fossil fuels. The country is implementing various sustainable energy technologies to increase electricity production. Most of the technology implemented in Egypt include hydroelectric power, wind turbines technology and solar technology. Other technologies such as biomass and fuel cells are gradually being implemented in specific areas such as at the ports. These technologies aim to explore the natural resources in Egypt to generate electricity and supplement non-renewable energy that forms approximately 96% of the countrys energy. The government has been implementing friendly policies to facilitate the easier implementation of these technologies. One of the prominent policies is engaging closely with the private sector to facilitate efficiency in generating green energy. Consequently, the country has been making significant progress in achieving its clean energy targets.
