I hope you are doing well. I have chosen 24-month-old child transcript and I counted that there are 74 morphemes out of 74 utterances. The MLU figure which the division of 74 to 72 is 1.02 which drives the conclusion that the child needs evaluation as for his age the MLU figure should be 1.92 (Owens, 2020). He used articles, for example, the bowl and a bigger one, which are usually suitable for the age starting from 24-month-old (Owens, 2020; Post University, n.d.). The child should use regular past tense and irregular past tense as predicted for his age, but they only used present tense and regular plural like peanuts. The sentence This ones big one is in the childs age content as there is no verb is and they also applied possessive s (Post University, n.d.). Overall, the development of language for this child is consistent with their age.

I agree with Gabrielle that children in the age range of 24 to 35 months should speak in subject + verb + object (Owens, 2020). In response to her question, I think transcripts help teachers to know about the strengths and weaknesses of children in terms of language development. Teachers may analyze transcripts and understand how they will arrange the lessons and what topics to cover. For example, they may focus on articles or on the topic of past tense if in transcripts it is seen that children do not use them correctly. Moreover, using transcripts is crucial for teachers to understand personality of every child because by looking at childrens commonly used phrases, teachers may understand how to communicate with them.

My question for the class is what did you find most interesting in these transcripts?
