There are many childrens literature books that fall under the biography category. However, one of the popular books is, Abraham Lincoln and Fredrick Douglass: The Story Behind an American Friendship, authored by Russel Freedman. The book is appropriate to be read by teenagers from ages 13-19 because it makes them understand the fascinating insight into the relationship between two friends and the governments everyday functioning.

The biography is about two great friends, Abraham Lincoln and Fredrick Douglas, who were born into low-income families. They educated themselves and made a tremendous difference in the history of the United States by taking stances against slavery (Freedman, 2012). Although they were considered friends, it is ironic that they only met thrice in their lives (Freedman, 2012). I would classify this type of biography as a presidents biography because it is about Abraham Lincoln, one of the greatest presidents of the United States whose outstanding leadership during the Civil War led to slavery abolishment (Freedman, 2012).

Russel Freedman gives readers reliable information about leadership because they are the anticipated leaders for a nation. The book is essential for every kid because it helps shape their leadership skills by understanding the insightful relationship between President Lincoln and Douglass, how government works, and how slavery came to an end in the United States (Freedman, 2012).

The book sharpens kids minds because it makes them understand that as a leader, there should be no discrimination but one love for all citizens. When kids read this book, they are likely to value friendship and yearn to become visionary leaders, who are outstanding in their generation by emulating the two leaders.
