Introduction

The Westminster Model is the system of government used in the United Kingdom and its dependencies and countries formerly parts of the British Empire. The Westminster Model is based on the principle of parliamentary sovereignty, wherein the legislature is supreme and can make or break any law it chooses. The Westminster Model differs from the U.S. system of government in several key ways (Dyck et al., 2020). The main difference between the Canadian Westminster model and the U.S. system of government is that the former has a parliamentary system while the latter has a presidential system. Under the Westminster system, the prime minister is the head of government and is responsible to parliament. On the other hand, the president is the head of state in the U.S. system and is not directly accountable to the legislature.

Power sharing in both the U.S and Canadian states

The Westminster Model gives the executive branch, the Prime Minister, and Cabinet more power than the U.S. President and Cabinet. The Canadian prime minister is the head of government and is responsible for the day-to-day administration of the government and is answerable to parliament. On the other hand, the U.S. president is the head of state, is primarily a figurehead, and has limited executive powers. Additionally, the Prime Minister can dissolve parliament and call new elections anytime, whereas the U.S. President cannot (Dyck et al., 2020). Moreover, the Westminster Model does not have a formal system of checks and balances like the U.S. For example, the Westminster Model has no equivalent to the U.S. Supreme Court.

The nature and structure of constitutions between nations and other differences

Furthermore, the Westminster Model does not have a written constitution like the U.S. This means that the British Parliament can change the laws of the land at any time without having to go through a formal amendment process as the U.S. Constitution requires (Pammett & Dornan, 2022). Finally, the Westminster Model does not have a supreme court like the U.S. This means there is no final arbiter of the law in the U.K., as in the U.S. The Canadian provinces have more autonomy than U.S. states. The provinces in Canada have a great deal of independence and control over their affairs, while U.S. states are more subordinate to the federal government. The Canadian parliament is bicameral, while the U.S. Congress is unicameral. The Canadian parliament is composed of the House of Commons and the Senate, while the U.S. Congress is composed of only the House of Representatives.

Differences between Canadian Political Parties

Political parties in Canada differ in meaningful ways, which affects the nature of politics in the country. The most obvious way that they differ is in their political ideologies. For example, the Liberal Party is typically associated with more left-leaning policies, while the Conservative Party is associated with more right-leaning policies (Dyck et al., 2020). Another way political parties differ in Canada is their organizational structures and cultures. For example, the Liberal Party is often seen as more centrally controlled and disciplined, while the Conservative Party is more decentralized and grassroots-oriented.

Differences regarding security, immigrants, and environmental protection views

Furthermore, the parties differ on taxation, gun control, and immigration issues. For instance, The Liberal Party favors stricter gun control laws and supports higher taxes for the wealthy. Conversely, Conservative Party does not bother with extreme gun control strategies and raining immigration levels (Dyck et al., 2020). The part suggests a high intake of immigrants in the new democratic party. The Liberal Party is more supportive of environmental regulations than the Conservative Party. The Liberal Party is more likely to enact policies designed to protect the environment, such as emissions standards and conservation measures. The Conservative Party, on the other hand, is more likely to prioritize economic growth over environmental protection.

The stand of the two parties on military and law by the government

The Liberal Party is currently the governing party, while the Conservative Party is in opposition. This means the Liberal Party has more control over the countrys laws and policies. The Conservative Party may still have some influence, but they are not the ones making the decisions (Pammett & Dornan, 2022). The Conservative Party has typically been more supportive of the military and law enforcement than the Liberal Party. The Conservative Party has traditionally been more supportive of the military and law enforcement than the Liberal Party. This difference is likely because the Conservative Party is typically more right-wing than the Liberal Party, and right-wing parties tend to support traditional institutions like the military and law enforcement. This difference has impacted Canadian politics because it has led to the Conservative Party being more likely to call for increases in military spending and to be more supportive of strict law and order policies.

Conclusion

Finally, political parties in Canada also differ in their approach to campaigning and elections. For example, the Liberal Party often focuses more on negative campaigning and attack ads. In contrast, the Conservative Party focuses more on positive messaging and policy platforms (Dyck et al., 2020). Although they may differ in their approach to some issues, they generally share some common ground on others. For example, all parties support free trade, environmental protection, and a womans right to choose.
