The American culture regarding sexual scripts changed a lot over the last 50 years. However, some behavioral and psychological patterns regarding sexual relations remained the same as earlier. By the time Greases song Summer Nights was released in 1978, young men were expected to have sexual relations, and they generally discussed their sexual experiences with friends. At the same time, young ladies paid more attention to love, feelings, emotions, and their partners. For example, in the video, the boys asked their friend whether his summer love did not get pregnant and how fast their first sexual connection happened. The girls asked their friend whether her summer boyfriend had a car, where they went on dates, and what the boys character was. This episode clearly shows different approaches towards sex observed in diverse genders. Therefore, such a double standard existed 50 years ago as boys were generally expected to be more experienced in having sexual connections.

Although it may seem that sexual scripts have changed a lot, some of their aspects remained the same as earlier, even after 50 years. Both boys and girls have sexual education classes at schools or colleges. Additionally, young men and women are expected to have at least one sexual relationship until they are 18. The presence or absence of sexual connections is sometimes considered an individual ranking that defines peoples popularity. This theory is applicable to both young men and women; therefore, ladies started to discuss their sexual relationships and connections with friends as well. However, it can be observed that despite discussing sexual connections, girls still tend to pay more attention to general aspects of dating, such as walking, holding hands, or exchanging presents. The differences between genders regarding sexual scripts still exist, but they are not so evident in the modern world.
