Obesity is a chronic illness that it mainly consists when you have a high percentage of fat in your body. Obesity its produced when you consume extra calories than what your body needs accumulating body fat, making you gain a lot of weight, and it affects your health negatively, causing difficult diseases.

To calculate weather, you have obesity or not, the majority of doctors use BMI (Body Mass Index), BMI is a way to know your body size by combining a persons height with their weight (see in appendix, photo 1). Depending of your BMI, they can have an idea if you have the correct weight for your height, so thanks to BMI they can know if you are underweight, if you have normal weight, if you are overweight, or if you are obese. To calculate BMI, you need to divide your weight in kg between your height in m2, depending on your BMI you obtained you can know if your weight is correct for your height.

Obesity is mainly caused when you eat a high amount of food consuming extra calories, this is because our body will gather the extra fat we ingested, so if we have a bad diet, it will be easier to have this illness, this is because some types of foods, tend us to gain weight. Also, if we dont make any type of exercise it will be easier to become obese, this is because if we dont do any type of exercise, we will not use the energy provided by the food, so we will not burn the extra fact we consumed while eating, storing it into fat in our body. So mainly having a sedentary lifestyle and a poor diet it is one of the most common causes of obesity, so if we change this two bad habits we can prevent having obesity, or if you want to lose weight eating better and doing physical activity will help you obtain your goal.

To prevent this type of illness what you need to do is change your lifestyle, as we commented before, one of the most common factors of obesity, is the poor lifestyle, what I mean with this is that eating unhealthy and dont making any type of exercise will lead you to have health problems and it will be easier for you to be obese. So, to prevent it we need to change our style of living, to live a better life. The first thing we need to do is to stop eating junk foods, and foods with high sugars and fats, and start eating healthier, including more vegetables and fruits to your daily habits, this is because apart is better for your health, this type of food can keep calories at a stable percentage, and it has more nutrients and minerals, making you healthier. Also, we must start doing more exercise, for having a healthier life and a healthy weight, so we need to have a more active lifestyle to prevent this type of illness. Keeping an active life can lower the risk of a lot of diseases like diabetes, heart diseases, stroke, osteoporosis, high blood pressure and certain cancer, so is very important to have an active lifestyle, because not only can help lower the risk of a lot of types of diseases, but also is one of the most important factors for having a healthy life. If you do exercise it can prevent you from being obese this is because when you do any type of physical activity, it starts to burn the fat that you consumed while you were eating, making you lose weight.

Being obese can cause you a lot of health risk, and as I said before than keeping an active life can lower the risk of some diseases, obesity can increase the risk of many health problems, like for example diabetes, heart diseases and certain cancers, this can lead to disability or early death.

Obesity rates are alarmingly high and is becoming an increasing concern, populations continue to see steady increases in obesity. According to the National Health and Nutrition Examination survey, 18,5% of children and almost 40% of adults had obesity in 2015-2016 as you can see in the rate bellow (go to appendix photo 2), this are one of the highest rates ever documented in NHANES. Rates have increased significantly since 1900-2000. The country with the most increase in prevalence in the whole world is USA, as we can see in the graph bellow (go to appendix photo 3). Researches founded that over the las 33 years, obesity among adults has increased over 27,5% and among children and teenagers over 41,1%, worldwide.
