The total exhibition of unique characteristics exhibited by an individual is considered their communication style. Communication techniques must be understood to establish a collaborative and open communication at work (Mikkelson et al., 2017). Employing communication techniques enables individuals to retain open lines of communication and respond appropriately to keep their coworkers and superiors engaged. Relationships with family members and friends can be enhanced by using effective communication approaches. Individuals are more likely to feel heard and recognized when we listen attentively as well as provide constructive criticism.

Dominance Style

The propensity to assert power over others is considered dominance. Any individual can be categorized as either low or high on the dominance spectrum. Workers with low dominance are evidently helpful and accommodative by nature, which is in accordance with the dominance drive, which is all about having an imprint but doing so in ones own way. People with low dominance tend to be kind and fairly inclined to let people around them run the show (Choudhury et al., 2019). However, a character with high dominance is aggressive, focused on getting things done, and they have a wide range of viewpoints. Above everything else, he treasures his freedom and self-reliance. Low-dominant people are tolerant of other folks authority, particularly when it is enforced by company policies, procedures, or protocols (Udin et al., 2019). As a result, they typically have open communication lines with their colleagues and bosses at work. Low-dominant people frequently develop and maintain close personal bonds with their family and friends because of their ability to listen attentively.

Sociability Style

Those who rank high on the sociability continuum frequently convey their emotions without inhibition, in contrast to those who rank low. A person with high sociability values interconnections and is gregarious and outspoken (Fellmann, 2020). Due to their friendliness, highly sociable people normally communicate at work without difficulties and with great success. In contrast, a person with poor sociability tends to be more formal and restrained in social situations. An individual with low sociability frequently exhibits a domineering personality, which could affect how they communicate in the workplace because their conduct may be perceived as being disinterested in the sentiments of others, leading their coworkers or clients to back off and shun them (Choudhury et al., 2019). Low social ability persons typically only interact with individuals close to them and have difficulty conversing with anyone not in their close sanctum due to their reserved character.

Communication Style

The sociability and emotion expressiveness continuums, which quantify ones mastery over emotional reaction, are combined to create emotive, reflective, direct, and supporting communication approaches. In a supporting style, low dominance and strong sociability are combined, which enhances good interpersonal communication, especially under challenging conditions (Rico & Cohen, 2005). When you have to give someone negative feedback or point out a few of their inadequacies, employing supportive techniques helps create and deepen relationships contributing to better communication at workplaces. Thus, it aims to preserve or enhance a good relationship between two individuals while still dealing with matters, ensuring effective communication in workplaces and the growth of personal relationships.

Overall, establishing open communication in the workplace entails being conscious of both your speech pattern and the persons you are communicating with. Furthermore, it offers the opportunity for goal accomplishment and personal development. Making meaningful progress in ones career can be enhanced by being able to recognize various communication styles and figuring out how to employ them during communication.
