Despite numerous efforts at establishing justice for racial and ethnic minorities, the rights of African American people in the U.S. remain systematically marginalized. The Black Lives Matter Movement that was established in 2013 represents a response to the specified problem in modern American society. A range of sources shed light on the movement, its goals, and the accomplishments that it has achieved so far, yet the ones by the Library of Congress and the Marshall Digital Scholar appear to have the most accurate and important data.
However, searching for these sources was not easy due to the presence of multiple sites with unverified or downright false information. Since the movement has become quite a buzzword that has been tangled in numerous political disputes, it was necessary to sieve through the data sources that were not credible enough. For this reason, the following mechanism was utilized when using the Google Chrome browser: Black lives matter +movement site:.gov; Black lives matter +movement site:.edu. The specified approach has helped to identify only the sites with Edu and gov domains that addressed specifically the topic of the Black Lives Matter movement.
In the course of the search, the following sites were found: Library of Congress ( Black Lives Matter (BLM), n.d.) and the Marshall Digital Scholar (Hager, n.d.). The quality of both sources is quite impressive since each provides a very accurate summary of the movement, its goals, and its accomplishments, thus making their argument relevant and valid. However, some significant differences make each source unique. For example, the Library of Congress provides a detailed account of the factors that have contributed to the development of the movement, as well as the cause that it is fighting. In turn, the other source is more concise and specific in its description of the issue, resulting in lesser coverage. The formats are also different, the Library of Congress providing a webpage, and the Marshall Digital Scholar offering a PDF presentation, yet the purpose is similar, both sources striving to educate their intended audiences, which are represented by average citizens in both instances. As a result, the ideas that lie at the core of each source are the same since both emphasize the plight for justice and equality.
