Introduction

Servant leadership is defined as an organizational style within a company where the leaders purpose is to serve their customers and help their employees grow within the field. The purpose of this paper is to analyze how this philosophy is supported at Zappos, an online shoe and clothing retailer.

Servant Leadership Practices at Zappos

Tony Hsieh, the CEO of Zappos, is well-known for promoting servant leadership at his company. For instance, if a potential buyer cannot find a specific product on the website, a company representative will search for it, even referring them to a competitors catalog if necessary (Lau, 2016, para. 23). In fact, most of the corporate decisions are aimed at keeping the customers happy, even if a sale does not take place. In terms of its employees, Tony Hsieh promotes a feeling of unity within the whole company.

Conclusion

Zappos is one of the few companies that employs the practices that focus on providing happiness for its customers and room for growth for its employees which helps maintain the servant leadership.
